  • Cherry, tar, flowers and a little menthol. Decanted two hours and was a great match with osso bucco.

  • 3rd of 8. 14% abv. The nose is lovely on this - quite floral, with rich anise. On the palate, for the first 2 hours, the wine drank easily, with fresh fruit and mild tannins (for Barolo) - everything nicely in balance, but with a fairly quick finish. As the night went on, the tannins started to show themselves, lengthening the finish, but in a drying way. There is lovely fresh fruit, and great purity to this wine though. I am happy to have 5 more and I think these will drink beautifully over the next decade+. It's great with food.

  • This is in a nice spot assuming you don't mind tannins - they are still massive and somewhat overwhelming. But, there is nice fruit present and the wine is showing lovely anise qualities on the nose and palate. Very little bricking in color. The finish is long. This is best with food, but should continue to age well for another decade or so.

  • Drinking well right now, though it was served warmer than ideal: saturated cherry, a touch of floral lift and tar. Quite full-bodied on the palate with some chunkiness to the tannins- not profound but enjoyable all the same

  • Since its release, Oddero's 2014 Barolo classico has always been special to me, sort of a favorite of the vintage. While I still like the early appeal & balance a lot, after almost 4 years I can definitely say that this has the juice and structure to be a long distance runner too. All the Villero fruit of the 2014 vintage is in here as well as some Vigna Rionda (younger vines). The showing is all classic, but in a distinct coolish-etheral way, which evokes an interweaved elegance, especially when the wine gets some air in the glass. Translucent, both in the color and bouquet. Lilting, this 2014 presents a lifted fruit (red with a blueish touch) with red plum, wild strawberries, pressed flowers, lavender, iris, chalk and also a mild zesty facet with spice and some laurel in the aftertaste. Harmonious in the entire drinking flow, especially when it comes to the polished tannins and supporting acidity. A fully captivating, gorgeous 2014 Barolo that I will happily follow with my remaining bottles.
