From 750ml. Color/App: deep, burnished gold core/stopping short of amber though; high viscosity. High toned bouquet of peaches and apricots, saffron, caramel and butterscotch; the usual suspects in a well-preserved old high-level Barsac. Creme brulee palate with peaches again, mandarin orange, toffee. Big for Climens but I'm not about to complain about a 60 year old Barsac being "too" much here! Still moderately sweet with lovely acidity and a long, lingering finish. Ridiculous to say, but still time in hand if well stored . . . .
And I'd buy a case of this if the devil was selling.

Why 62 is less than 61 (Wine Watch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): Usually Climens can be relied on to deliver a fairly elegant and nuanced Barsac but at least at this point and for this bottle I found it top heavy. Thick, rich and syrupy. That can work with some of the heavier Sauternes but only if there is perfect acidity and a substantial panoply of flavors, which it lacked. Still, it’s good, just not delightful.

Dinner with the wine group (Palette, SF): From 375mL. Caramel, aromatic, orange peel, marmalade; palate is medium bodied, excellent balance, still has hints of sweetness, fades a bit through the mid palate; finish is medium length. Lovely, not amazing. 92

From 375. Dark amber color, and a Cork that crumbled into the bottle, but the wine is in perfect condition- seemingly ageless. Stunning Climens that has dropped a lot of the sweetness, with bracing acidity, iodine, oyster shell, white mushroom, confit grapefruit, and some saffron-almond-apricot overtones. Great bedfellows with an apricot-rhubarb frangipane tart. Just lovely and impossibly fresh for a 60 year old wine - if this bottle is representative, it seems likely to drink well through the century mark.

A bit reticent at the beginning, then showing great class. saffron and apricot. unfortunately, not lasting long: after 30 minutes in the glass an oxidative note takes away part of the pleasure, so drink now
