  • Sat, 05/11/19, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Touriga Nacional (39%) Touriga Franca (34%), & Traditional Douro varieties [Tinta Roriz, Tinta da Barca, Tinta Barroca, Sousão, Tinto Cão, & Tinta Amarela] (27%) from Quinta de Ervamoira (altitude 150 m) & Quinta dos Bons Ares (altitude 600 m); "Crushed & de-stemmed, & then fermented in granite lagares & s/s vats where the grapes are macerated for as long as is needed to obtain a wine with the desired body & structure. After malolactic fermentation, 20% of the wine is aged in FR barrels, 30% in big oak vats, & the remainder stored in s/s vats for 13 mos. The wine was bottled in February 2017." 14% ABV, 5.0g/l T.A., & 3.77 pH

N: Slightly closed; RIPE berries with choc creeping forward; Intensity lurking?

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with nice, ALMOST swtish frt met by some puckerish astringency which somewhat resolves by the LONG, very slightly bitterish finish with notes of swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS 6-12 mos, then drinking for 3 yrs more? My VG/VG+; 90 pts ea Wine & Spirits, WA, and WE, all @ $15, and 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson (Hemming). [This vendor's $11.95 is as good as any on wine-searcher.]

Note: My TN of 1/5/2019 was slightly more favorable.

  • Medium full bodied. Nice core of cherry/black cherry with some cassis. good acidity and medium smooth tannins.
Drinking well now and should be good for a few more years.
Pleasing with and without food, and a bargain at $15.

  • Deep, dark reddish-purple in color. Full, fragrant & aromatic nose of ripe dark fruit aromas of cherries & blackberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, cocoa, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & appears to be made for near to mid-term consumption. Very good QPR.

  • One of the few not owned by Symington. And they own the most land apparently too. A Portugese blend. Rich raisin fruit on the nose. Baked spices yet still fresh. Ted in the legaras. Stainless, concrete and thena very slight amount of new oak. Nice stiff freshness on the back with fresh tannins showing through.
