  • bouquet is herbal, peppery, lightly floral, with strawberry. palate is pleasant, initially, a tinge sweet but quickly segues into more herbal and savoury flavours. tannins are still very present even after a 3hr decant. can be enjoyed now but (based on this showing) still some extra time on its side won’t hurt it.

  • Two hour double decant. Deep ruby magenta color. Raspberry, lilac, cherry jello, limestone, milk chocolate malt, and subtle licorice. Dry, red-fruited palate. Low intensity tannins on the medium long finish.

  • Tried with Coravin. Great expression of CdP, but still seems to needs more time, maybe 6 to 12 months.

  • From magnum.

Decanted 1/2, put the other 1/2 into a 750ml to hang. Tight and primary, some hot, cooked/stewed plums and black fruits, a feral gaminess in the nose. Dark and opaque purple in the nose, faint hints of smoke and oak, some boozy qualities. In the mouth, the wine is spicy, full bodied with some grip from the tannins, acid seems to be missing a bit here. Flavors of figs, stewed plum, earth and oak dominate, boozy finish magnified by the nose. I don't think this is one to sleep on, I think the booze and cooked fruit flavors are only going to get stronger- went well with seared strip steaks

  • Medium garnet colour. Pronounced and developing nose with baked plum, blackberry, leather, smoke and clove. Pronounced taste of baked plum, clove, smoke, leather and blackberry. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Full body. A very good Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Part of my WSET3 exam prep. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with beef og lamb.
