Oaky, round, dense, smoky and forward, this is decidedly modern in character, texture and style. The black cherries, licorice, espresso, smoke and oak will be much better when they meld together.

2017 UGC Des Bordeaux, San Francisco, terrific nose of dark fruit, hints of allspice and licorice, 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, fairly fruit forward tasting today, medium/big body, tasty, rich fruit, soft tannins, and a long finish, pricey but might be worth it 5 years from now.

Union des Grand Cru de Bordeaux: Seattle: Baking spices, mix of both red and dark fruit, oak and hints of honey. A slightly weak finish, but the fruit was bountiful.

Still youthful and probably have to aged little while more to soften the tannin. Medium+ nose intensity with black fruits, violet, flora.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Beurs van Berlage / Eden Hotel): Trade tasting, brief note. Impressive. Resolutely modern in style, ripe fruit and a solid charge of tannins, big and powerful for a 2017, extracted but it looks like it will work. Needs time, upward potential.
