First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind. Reductive, black fruits but quite savoury. Medium plus intensity acidity, chewy plentiful tannins, black fruits, very tight, very young. Time required. I went for Australian Shiraz, SA 2017

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.): This was a real gem. There's a nice tension in this wine. Some tannin and some acid and yet overall a generally soft approach. It comes across as quite pretty. Some floral (rose hips) and those lovely red berries you can get with Grenache. Very young and seems to be a wine that is more meant to age. Very much enjoyed.

some killer wines from Yangarra: Light purple color. Deep yet pretty aromatics of red and black raspberries, plums, red cherries, along with complex roses, violets, wild herbs and spices – a lot going on here. Full-bodied but velvety tannins, yet fresh acidity keeps it really lively. Tart cherries, raspberries, plums, the fruit is rich but tangy and laced with mint, eucalyptus, wild herbs, black pepper, rose potpourri, some coffee and cinnamon notes. There’s a deep, pervasive minerality here as well. Bold flavors but a lot of freshness and elegance. Very impressive stuff. From 70-year-old vines in sandy soils aged 11 months in old French oak.

2 weeks in Australia with a stopover in Singapore; 6/14/2019-7/1/2019 (Singapore, Sydney, Adelaide, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills): Tasted at the winery. This is the highest end offering of the Yangarra Grenache - from the oldest gnarly bush vines on old sand dunes. Possesses all the lovely aromatics of the earlier offerings and additional complexity and layering on the palate. Super elegant and complex with a lightness and freshness. Delicious now, would love to see how this adds additional complexity with further cellar time.
