(l'Arlot Nuits St.Georges Clos des Fôrets St.Georges) Medium-minus colour. A friendly and complex nose; faint, very understated smoky stems overlayed with mainly black cherry notes. The palate is very well balanced, good acidity and still quite linear, though ripe fruit. The tannins are understated, heading for the background, but still with a last edge of astringency. Overall a very interesting and understated wine where, today, most of the action comes from the lovely aromatics.

PNP into Sydonios Le Subtil glass (“Root” day): Medium garnet to the eyes.
Black cherries and plums, some wild berries as well. Dried florals. What sets this apart was the sous bois notes that is towards “garrique” and “olives” that one may draw parallels to a top South Rhone Grenache.
Great integration. Mellow and complex with well resolved suave tannins.
Amazing quality here. 94 points easy.

Mature. Tertiary aromas of mushrooms, spices on the nose. Notes of cedar, pine. Wonderfully expanding on the palate, again tertiary flavors, forest floor notes, Pinot spices, soft and dusty fruit. Wide and deep, ready to go. Maison du Colombier in Beaune.

Tight early. Really opened up after 90 minutes to reveal lovely spices, black pepper, woodsy cedar nose, good weight on the palate with nice fruit and smooth finish. Glad I have another bottle of this one.

Served blind. Nose started somewhat offensively, and switched glasses it cleaned up a bit. Dark color, rich fruit, most tasters myself included were thinking '90 - '93 vintage. Reveal was a surprise to all, I'd be curious to drink this again.
