  • A lovely shade of gold forewarning a sophisticated and developed nose of baked apple, pie crust, runny honey and hazlenuts. Juicy, dense and mouthwatering acidity on the palate, still with a powerful sense of structure. Slightly astringent lemon peel finish. I wouldn't wait any longer for this from 375ml.

  • 16 degrees here in Brisbane, and very cold. Two dogs possibly on the bed tonight.

These tasting notes refer only to the 2014 vintage, for which I can't find a space on the CT website. Anyway be that as it may, we have: a wonderful open nose, fragrant almost perfumed, and with notes of mineral and mango, quite deep and complex. Re the palate: I'm not certain: just rather too full at the moment for my taste, and lacking definition. I suspect this may be the ambiguous heritage of the great 2014 vintage, where we have deep wines where depth (if we see "depth" as something that may destract us from the surface) may not always be desirable.
This wine may well find its consummation in farmyard (where all wines are equal, but some may be more equal than others), and I wish I had some more. French wine, here and elswhere, at the moment is up and singing. But my comments also apply to the new generation of GG German wines, and to the wines from Italy and Spain. This is a younger generation competing with each other for quality and for the self-respect that comes with producing wines of the highest quality.

These standards are absolute, and whatever nasty disease hits us in the future, we will retain these standards.

Good night, bonne nuite, goode Nacht, bonne notte.

  • Tasting classic, light and refined. Shouldn’t have drunk these so quickly.

  • On the whole consistent with previous note but overall lighter than I recall.

  • Consistent with previous note; it is a bit disjointed on opening with a crisp appley note and a rather creamy palate, but with air it all comes together with a tremendous wet stone streak and cinder toffee carameliness on the finish.
