Matt ( from heirloom) said this was a 7 out of 10 bottle, but I thought it was great juice, supple, elegant acidity. Strawberry rhubarb, a toich of smoke.

Are you sure this isn't old nebbiolo? Sure smells like a meaty old Spanna. Dark ruby color with amber rim - almost old Médoc-like - gamy, meaty, wild boar aromas alongside notes of charred barrel, pie cherries, red plums, tobacco, cedar, dried leaves and camphor. Still firm and tannic in the mouth, plenty of acidity and verve. Hints of vanilla bean emerge mid-palate and segue the wine to a long, meaty, tobacco-ey finish. Really quite an impressive showing for such an old Sonoma pinot noir...even if the wine comes off more like a burly Northern Piemontese nebbiolo than a delicate pinot noir from the Côte de Nuits.

This is past its prime to be sure, but still has some purity and soft tannins. I was not overally disappointed considering it is 41 years old and a domestic pinot. We enjoyed it and it was a nice addition to our thanksgiving.

A special bottle, soft ripe and round, structure mostly gone, still some good grip. Not quite the depth or penetration of a grand cru, but lovely

Aging very gracefully. Gorgeous earthy forest floor notes but nicely balanced.
