Dark dense ruby violet color with a full bodied appearance. The nose is herbal and dark fruit - green pepper for sure. On the palate it is pure dark fruit surrounded by fine round tannins. It finishes long and clean. A really wonderful wine.

Exceptional blend of 50% Cab, 40% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot (grows well in Israel). In the glass is deep purple. Bouquet of plums, chocolate, some tobacco and pepper. Creamy in the mouth, with vanilla, cassis, and dark fruits. More complex and fruit forward than most Bordeaux-style wines. Exceptional. Hold. Domaine du Castel vineyards recently decimated by recent fires, and next year must lie fallow. Therefore may not have another Domaine du Castel for 8-10 years.

Domaine du Castel, Grand Vin, 2018: I’ve tasted this wine twice, and after somewhat of a slightly underwhelming vintage in 2017 and a flamboyant yet stylistically atypical 2016, the 2018 makes a legit comeback. Deep royal purple. On the nose, toasted oak, vanilla, cigar humidor, ripe cassis, blackberries, black cherries, roasted herbs, freshly paved asphalt, loam, with a subtle touch of green bell pepper. Full-bodied, medium-plus concentration, with an elegant mouthfeel. On the palate, layers unfold, with juicy crushed forest berries, black plum, green foliage, Mediterranean herbs, earth, graphite, tar, medium acidity, smoked pipe tobacco, mushrooms, vanilla bean, roasted pecan, cracked pepper, with grainy tannins as well as notes of dark chocolate on the long and generous finish. The Left Bank Bordeaux wannabe with an Israeli accent is back. Very well-done. 14.5% Abv. Drink 2025-2031, maybe longer. 93

BT deep purple pronounced aroma of black cherries, raspberries, cranberries, oak-vanilla, spicy; youthful; dry, high acidity, med+ tannins, high abv, full body, pronounced flavour intensity consistent with the aromas; long finish; still young - requires further aging
