Not the tension or energy of a really great Latricières-Chambertin, yet a positive upside surprise, nonetheless, given the vintage. None of the greenies (I'm not terribly sensitive) and excellent purity to dark fruits, smooth and silky texture, medium weight, good length. Seems fully mature. Cellared since release.

Slow-ox 30 minutes, tasted over 2 hrs, bottle from secondary market -moderate bricking -expressive warm earth burg funk '04-ness subtle mature elements and Gevrey stewed tomato with a touch of oak -med acidity, med weight and concentration, earthy with some cherry and mature element less complex on palate than nose, chalky med tannins slightly dried out, OK length -OK overall but disappointing for a Grand Cru, on a mature plateau without a lot of expected upside development

Lighter, elegant flavors on a firm lattice of structure. Nose is restrained heavily at this point. There don't seem to any of the greenies going on in this wine at all. The fruit level is sort of typical for 2004. Will hold out hope that with some time this fleshes out a bit and develops the mid-palate charm and richness it will need to have to make up for the lighter level of ripeness and intensity. Could be very good if never excellent.

2001 Gevrey Chambertin Grand Cru dinner (Sage, Singapore): Nose of leather, earth and iron, with a brambly, slightly green accent. Whiffs of coffee appeared after time. Dark cherries on the palate, with a long, spicy, white pepper finish. Rather thick mouthfeel, with a sense of power and concentration. Nice sense of balance with noticeable tannins and acid. Certainly well made, but this needs time in the bottle.
