AP 20 06. Final bottle from a half case purchased at auction in 2008. Pristine condition. Laubach refers to the layers of slate in this part of the vineyard from the late Devonian era, with up to 10% chalk and a high fossil content. Old vines, many ungrafted. Spontaneous fermentation, aged on the lees for at least 18 months, 12.5% ABV. The terroir, as it as expresses itself through the wine making, delivers a wine that is quite unusual in the context of the Moselle, even in the context of the Terrassenmosel. Medium buttercup yellow colour; rich and creamy nose, spicy and deep, with yeasty notes and a nuttiness that is reminiscent of Meursault, and finally hints of white flowers and vineyard peach; the palate is quite lush, almost honeyed, with ripe but piquant acidity and substantial bitters; the finish is relatively light and dry, yeasty, with tart citrus notes. Is there such a thing as weighty elegance? Fascinating wine, fully mature.

Went past this one pretty quickly, as we had a lot of wines to get to, but it showed a striking mid-palate richness, and an overall barely past trocken balance that was quite alluring. I did manage to get a second sip later, confirming that it's in a very nice place right now. I would drink up and enjoy!

Lemon, ausgeprägte Mineralik und Sommerkräuter, ein Hauch Vanille. Am Gaumen guter Schmelz, aber nicht ausgesprochen differenziert.
