Medium body. Nice spice and dark fruit, I think black berry, on the palate. Still structured but with nice fruit and depth, as well as balance. This is drinking very nicely now but will be amazing in 3-5 years. Aside a grand cru this will fall quite short, but on its own it’s quite great.

100% Pinot Noir from the 3.92 ha parcel (since 1791) in the heart of the 32 ha Beaune Grèves 1er cru with east/south-east exposure and gravelly/sandy limestone clay soil. Manual harvest in small 13 kg boxes. Manual sorting by grape. Partial de-stemming (20% whole bunch). Soft pressing. 18 day vinification in small vats. Aged 17 months in French oak barrels (20% new) under optimal environment of the cellars of the ancient Château de Beaune. 13.5% Abv.
Background: Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard and continued for 3 centuries and 9 generations. Acquired by Joseph Henriot (Maisons & Domaines Henriot) in 1995 which in turn became part of the group Artemis Domaines in 2022 under François Pinault (Château Latour, Christie's, etc.) Cellar Master: Frédéric Weber (since 2013)
A(ccuray)=2: Med ruby/cherry. Mildly stalky, toasty varietal. B(alance)=3: Modulated components in harmony. C(omplexity)=2: Ripe dark berries, spices, tobacco, earthy minerality. D(epth)=2: Velvety mouthfeel. Subtle intensity, stealthy length, expansive finish.
Wine Tally Score [2/3/2/2] = 9/10
Reticent charm.

Racy fruit followed by a peppery finish. Very smooth and elegant.

La Fête du Champagne Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Walkaround tasting with the producers. More black than red fruits, very attractive aromatically but more backward and brooding on the tongue. Good density. Better from 2030-.
