Community Tasting Notes (6) Avg Score: 90.4 points

  • Blackberry, plum, spice, leather with rustic earthy note and rounded oak. Quite promising in the beginning but easily lost its beautiful bouquet too soon. Mild and smooth texture is sweet at first, but feels greasy as it lacks proper acidity. Very approchable at first, a little disappointing at last.

  • Quite tannic, and not very revealing at this point. This has not developed much at all in the few years since I last tasted it. Hold for another 2 or 3 years.

  • This is a substantial rise in pleasure and points. A very precise, sweet, alluring Ribera del Duero this is. Blueberry, cherry, coffee and some beautiful cigar box melt to a real pleasure on the palate. Long with fine but satisfying tannin this one no reveals its true virtues.

  • 1. Night: from the start this is quite open and relaxed, a pleasing opening. Fragrant and animating nose with cinnamon, clove and red fruit like ripe raspberry and plum. The acidity seems quite low contrary to my expectations and I asume that is this reason that the palate makes a quite sweet impression, even though the wine is dry. Even so I enjoy and it has its certain qualities I am not fully convinced of the high end reputation it has right from the start.
Matallana used to be exclusively Tinta Fina aka tempranillo, from some old and small parcels. Now the make just one wine, with all the grapes they have, which is a mixture of Garnacha, Tinta Fina, Bobal and some others. More or less a field blend. I like thy idea but the unchanged name with a very much changes wine does not struck me as logical in terms of information policy. From the business side it is naturally the right decision. But I stay reluctant to pay some 40 - 50 bucks for this one.

  • Noch jugendlich, geschmeidig, es fehlt noch ein wenig die Struktur und das Rückgrat, sollte aber in den nächsten Jahren kommen
