This is a big zin. Lots of oak, with the essence of fresh oak planks in addition to charred oak. Fruity, tannic, dry, with a nice fruity finish that is typical of good zin. More over-the-top than most Easton zins I've had, but good, and may benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

Medium garnet in color. Decanted at least 60 minutes (lost track while preparing dinner). Blackberry, underripe plum, mint, and a bit of mushroom on the nose. Simple in comparison to other Easton Estate Zins we have had. Medium bodied and way more acidic than I was expecting. Blackberry, plum, currants start off the palate. Black pepper, cedar, and some spices build up with the tannins. Prickly tannin structure forms, but not as structured as I was expecting. Long acidic, black pepper, spicy and herbal finish supported by bramble backdrop.
When I went to pull up the tech sheets for this wine, this one has more acidity than the other vintages of the estate Zin. This wine did not blow my kilt up like other Terre Rouge and Easton wines I have had in the past – and I will write it off to a off vintage (as it was a drought year). Pair this one with food - it did go well with the roasted chicken we had.
