Drank at a wine dinner with representatives of Bodegas Valdemar. Difficult to make detailed notes with conversations occurring. Impressions are that the wine is heavy- body with little tannic structure and too little acid to support the fruit. Fine grained tannins, but also heavily oaked. Notes from the winemaker: 85% Tempranillo, 7% Mazuel, 6% Granciano, 2% Garnacha; 14% ABV; 30 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels.
Also tasted a 1995 version of the same wine (85% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo; 28 months in American and French oak barrels) which had noticeable oxidation. The fruit was still present, but acid and tannic structure were missing.

blended with Graciano and Maturano. French oak 30 months. Medium plus nose shows dill, black fruits, fresh earth, light pepper, dried raspberry. Palate is lovely style, balance of fruit, acid, earth tones, warm spice, light mesquite, 2nd taste shows more structure, medium plus tannins and body. Elegance with heft, nicely done. Excellent QPR.

This btl back on form makes me think food pairing was suboptimal last taste. No problems here, just a solid product. Cant help but wonder if this will age well...

Henri Bloem, Bloemendaal, autumn tasting: It is the very lively citrus that makes this Rioja interesting; see my 2022 tasting note.

Deep red color wien with good mix of tannin, dark cherry notes with some character. Paired well with some spicy Indian food.
