  • A bottle filled and labeled for a german retailer, but a gift from origin by parcel, a wow bottle, lively red fruit, very, very elegant, soft on the palate, the pure finesse, very long and intense finish, showing tobacco, forest soil, and spices like black pepper, a top bottle, ****

  • Nice red fruit nose. 3rdish, took time to open and better on day 2.... Mid bodied palate, good acidity, certainly alive. Drink now. I guess it will hold few more years but no use.

  • Quite tight, minty tones, ashes, sour cherries, strongish acidity but enough flavours to balance the wine, not like some aged Riojas that left with nothing but acid storm.

  • What an amazing and intense wine.

Drank alongside the '68, '84, '85. While the '68 was flowery and perfuming (and amazing) this wine was absolutely in its prime. Powerful "fruit" notes of walnut and fig filling the glass and surrounded by a sour cherry note; the palate driving with much acidity, beautifully balanced and just drinking absolutely perfectly.

I have to wonder if '73 was a "hotter" vintage or a riper vintage in Rioja (the label shows 13% vs. '68 12.5%) leading to a more fruit tone in the wine instead of the floweriness of the '68. Or maybe it was just age showing itself off. In any case, this was absolutely in its prime. I would love to have it again, its simply incredible.
