This is getting there. I think it will get better but the last bottle of this I had was 4 years ago and it was a little closed. Now it's still a bit austere, but it has dark purple plum fruit on the palate and still maintains the tannic structure.
The wine is clear and bright with a deep garnet colour and presence of legs. The nose is slightly faulty and developing, it shows medium intensity aromas of cedar, tobacco, dark plums, liquorice and hints of barnyard. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium+ acidity. It has medium+ fine grained tannins and medium+ alcohol. It has a medium+ body and medium intensity flavours of cedar, tobacco, dark plums, liquorice and hints of barnyard. The finish is medium.
It is a good quality wine, it shows some typicity, even if it displays some hints of brett, and a nice tannic and acidic structure. However this style could be more complex, the fruit concentration more intense and the finish longer. Drink now, it has enough structure to be kept safely for 2-3 years more, but it lacks enough fruit concentration to develop into something more interesting.
This is nice and balanced, albeit young and a little on the lighter side. Nose of dark fruits and some leather, and a similar palate. We started it out with just some cheese and crackers and then switched to a tomato/beef stew, and the difference was notable -- so much better with the stew. Nice 20-second-ish finish. An above-average wine.
