2019 has shown us a relatively forward, generous expression of Léoville Las Cases with a fresh, generously-fruited nose of raspberry jelly, blueberry, and kirsch, moving from the red toward the black end of the spectrum with more time in the decanter. The pencilly palate is enjoyable but somewhat atypical for Las Cases with already-supple tannin cloaking a full body and slightly conspicuous alcohol. This is the second vintage in a row over 14% (the 2018 coming in at 14.42%) and while it's not too overbearing in either case, neither quite navigates the heat of the vintage quite as deftly as the 2009 (13.8%). This is made with 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc harvested between September 18 and October 8. 14.02% ABV, pH 3.67, IPT 80.
Time will tell, but I suspect this will land in the 94-95 point range depending on how well balanced it is when it's through its adolescence.

From 375ml bottle. Decanted 2 hours. At the beginning the wine was a bit closed and bitter (despite decanting for 2 hours). In the third hour the wine was better and after four hours at it's best. A really great Leoville Las Cases, which should be even better in 10+ years.

Opened this wine to try it before it shuts down which supposedly Las Cases is known to do early. Not decanted. Bitter black but somewhat aristocratic notes on day 1. Better after 5 hours of air in the bottle.
Much better on day 2 especially toward the end - very deep and mesmerizing black and blue fruits and extremely expressive on the nose and palate - kept smelling the glass in partial disbelief that it was so good. My wife loved it and said “this is really good”. The smell was similar at times to the Leoville Barton but deeper and more steady. The Barton changed aromas more frequently. A 2019 Calon Segur on day 1 was good but paled in comparison to this - the Calon was best on day 3 though. Best wine I’ve had except for the 2019 Canon last June that was just unreal and the Montrose. These three represent the best of 2019 Bordeaux in my opinion but there are many excellent 2019s.
On day 3 it wasn’t as expressive or deep but a bit more integrated with the same beautiful deep black and blue fruit smell. On day 4 was more muted on the nose and palate but still an excellent wine with a long finish.
Now I understand why this wine is so expensive - it is for special occasions, but wish it was more affordable for us normal folk! Nonetheless am glad to try this out before it likely shuts down for 10+ years.

Nez boisé, fruit rouge, bois mouillé... Tannin présent, un peu dur, manque un peu de complexité.

Easy 98 points. Dark fruits/ espresso/lengthy. Needs 2-3 hours in glass/decanter.
