New Year's Champagne Madness (Casa Gill): Not in the same league as the 96 Clos de la Roche we had in August...maybe oxidized, and certainly not showing very much.

At first it was quite tight, possessing the structure of the vintage and some funky, musky smells coupled with a little volatility. Slowly it unfurled in the glass to show notes of sour cherry, dried flowers, smoked meats and mineral and earth. It gained in complexity and was exhibiting a wondrous savoury perfume as he last few drops were drained.

Pnp and then drank the bottle over 2 days. Bricking / browning red. Earthy nose, nice sweet strawberry on the palate, high acidity, finish could be longer. 90-91

Nice, pleasant wine but a bit underfruited and definitely not grand cru quality. More evidence that Ponsot missed in 1995.

WCC Blind Tasting of Grand Cru Red Burgundy (Fort Orange Club, Albany, NY): Muted but appealing nose. Harmonious sweet and sour.
