Pours a medium gold in the glass. Developing med + intensity aromas of honey, orange marmalade, lemon, white peach, yellow apple, quince, apricot, white fig, wet rocks, hazelnuts, toast, vanilla. In the mouth, the wine is dry, full body, med acid, high alcohol, med + palate intensity, med finish. Overall, good/very good. I feel like this wine is overdeveloped for being 5yrs old. The wine is very fleshy in the mouth, which is what I was expecting, alcohol is noticeable and stands out in front, I also wanted a bit more acid, longer finish, and expected a bit more intensity in both the nose and mouth.
I see that some compare this wine to Condrieu- there's no viognier in this wine, St. Joseph blanc is typically marsanne dominant with some roussanne, I feel like comparing the two throws expectations off from what either is or should be.

Knowing how explosive this wine can be from prior vintages I let it breath for about 30 minutes. High alcohol very evident in this vintage but apart from that somewhat true to form but not as outstanding as '15. Rich body, caramel, pineapple, wet stone......more Condrieu like in many ways. Certainly no rush on this one.

I love white Rhones, and I have loved every Guigal wine that I have ever had. Until now. The nose is OK. On the palate, the wine lacks fruit, concentration and any interest. It's just nondescript and totally forgettable. And not cheap, either. Every Condrieu that I have ever had blows this away.

Somewhat hard going: lots of alcohol (14.5%), viscous, extremely phenolically bitter. Sour cream and smoke on the slightly reductive nose, then saline (preserved lemon?) on the palate. Will the alcohol ever integrate?

Reminds me of the “la doriane condrieu” from Guigal. Sweet. Exotic fruits. Would be good as aperitif. For food more difficult.
