  • This is such an elegant and delicately balanced wine. Ethereal!

No discussion about the grape or the origins. Plenty of petrol and kerosine on the nose as well as minerals and crushed stones. Green apples, lime and citrus. Off-dry, towards sweet but with a crazy lightness and a perfect acidity. Medium bodied with a long finish and high intensity. This is first class stuff! Drinks perfectly now, but I'm sure it will keep in good shape for plenty of years to come.

  • No. 40. Delicate and perfectly balanced auslese. Will certainly live longer, but it is no crime to drink it now. Wished it was a 750, as it was gone way too quick....

Rockss and Fruit

(Eitelsbacher Karthausherhofberg Auslese # 40) Great nose of petrol, honey, incredible ripeness and sweet wet moss. Sleek citrus flesh on the palate with pulpy tangerines and great length. This was a stunner. Christophe told me that many winemakers in the Mosel/Saar/Ruwer consider 1994 as good as or better than 2001. Food for thought when backbuying.
