  • 2019 Smith Madrone Chardonnay 100% estate grown. Fresh pear, honey, brioche. Warm and fresh. Paired perfectly with pork tenderloin. Deep and rich bold flavors. The horsepower of this producer is always impressive and a great price point really elevates it.

  • Retail $45. Responsible bottle. Under cork. Well. I have been lucky enough to sample Smith-Madrone wines for several years now and, well, I am not worthy (movie reference?). The wines, at least for as long as I have been tasting them, have always been spectacular and while not "inexpensive", they certainly are of great value at prices practically unheard of in Napa given the quality. This 2019 Chard is no exception. Certainly yellow and on its way to golden in the glass with boatloads of lemon curd and a bit of an herbal note (sweet basil) curiously on the nose. The palate is rich and luxurious (but short of being the dreaded cougar juice) with plenty of lemon creme pie balanced with an incredibly zingy tartness and more than a hint of oak. Sure, this is a bit of a throwback to the "classic California" Chardonnay style, but boy, is it delicious. Weighty but also lithe, big but also deft, tart but also round. What else could one want? Outstanding. 94 Points.

  • Light yellow in color with a golden hue.

Light nose of citrus, apples, apricots and light spices.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with apples, pears, ripe lemons, pineapples, spices, light oak, light vanilla and minerals.

Nice finish with limes and lemons.

This is a very tasty Chardonnay from Napa Valley. Elegant and fruit forward.

This 4 year old is neither bitter nor tart, just right. Nicely balanced and a great sipping wine.

I've had a few vintages of this Chardonnay, and it is very consistent, and much better with some age.

Tasty right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

    14.6% alcohol by volume.

    91 points.

    $45.

  • Rich yellow color. The lemon curd, orange peel, and yellow pear aromas are delightful, with notes of yellow and white flowers, inviting tones of biscuit dough, sea salt, crushed stones – love it. The palate is racy and spritely with a delightful texture and harmonious fruit 9lemons, yellow pears, white peach). Nuances of white tea, honey, sea salt, slight nougat and graham cracker. Racy and precise, deep and age-worth, this has it all. Disclaimer, I’m a huge fan of this wine in general, but even if it was not my personal style, I don’t think you can argue that this is one helluva well-made Chardonnay. And the 2019 is singing, and will continue to do so in the cellar.
