young, of course, but still it lacks the structure/minerality this variety craves. Lots of plum and dark fruit, and the oak is present as expected. Good, but not greatly impressive, and not a patch on the far better 15 and 18 versions of this wine. Still, I'm sure the lemmings out there will no doubt proclaim this as "one of the greatest Australian wines", our most popular critic front and centre among them (roll eyes) As the pricing moves upward, this pinot starts to resemble those of Bass Phillip, where it's more about the label than what is in the bottle. ho hum.

Mount Mary Tasting - Langtons (Virtual with samples sent): On the nose cherry and hint of liqueur. Very gentle, low acid. Quite fruity (for MM) - cherry and darker fruits. Soft tannins to point of lacking a little structure. Got appreciably better in the glass over time.

Mount Mary New Releases; 10/22/2021-10/29/2021: Pretty nose, raspberries and currants with cherry and plum. Quite a sweet palate upfront, lots of that same red tinged berry fruit. Some savoury notes in the background but they are secondary to the fruit for now. Good but needs that sweet edge taken off with some age.

Very fragrant and rich on the nose with ripe, berried fruit, damp earth, a really tight spiciness, and a gentle leafy layer in the background. As the wine unravels with time in the glass, the aroma builds additional complexity, showing some tobacco, and pencil shaving aromas.
Initially firm and sour-fruited on the palate, but then a fruit sweetness comes into play and fans out across the palate. Gentle tannic grip through the finish.
Not a crime to drink now, though it has the stuffing to age and develop further.
