Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Served blind. Red fruits, leather, earthy, a little spice, cream. Medium plus acidity, plenty of textured grip red cherry fruit, slightly worked, but nice, charming in fact. 2012 Pinot Yarra Valley, Yeringberg?

This was from a very wet vintage, and it showed in an otherwise very well made wine. Forest floor and mushroom tones balanced with strawberry and red berry characters. An easy drink, and good for the vintage.

And here we are two years later about to pair with grilled salmon, asparagus. Acorn squash. Still drinking well with notes of strawberry.
