Superb nose on opening- very classic roses and tar- aromatic and hugely enjoyable on the nose. However on day one the palate is angular with a big green streak running through it and the tannins are drying in a less than enjoyable way. Day 2 brings more balance, with a far less hollow palate and toothsome but not excessively drying tannins. The nose is somewhat diminished though and the green element is still there. Matched with a rich beef dish the green note is covered, the tannins become a pleasure and what remains of the angular aspect reshapes on my tongue and in my mind as elegance. I don’t think this is a great vintage for this bottling but the benefits of air and rich food indicate it should improve with a certain amount more age even if not one for the ages.

Drank alongside the Mosconi. This has the same maraschino cherry fruit but feels a bit sweeter, the oak a bit more noticeable and there is a minerally iron character . I preferred the Mosconi but this is As good but different.4

Lay & Wheeler Italy Growers' Tasting: Brief notes: Perfumed nose, something dark underneath though. Beautiful on the palate, the texture just feels right. Lots of brambly fruit and a touch of spice. Fine and grippy.

Ripe red fruit. Jammy. Mint. Oak notes, cinammon. Complex. High fine tannins. Long complex finish.
