Deep garnet in the glass. Tertiary aromas in the front, but still some very strong primary notes in the back as well. Dried plum, raspberry, cranberry, cured meat, dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with soft tannins, moderate acidity and high alcohol. Good, long finish with some dusty texture to it. Lovely value.

Dark syrah fruit with black pepper, bacon, roasted game, black olives, tar, violets, and iodine on the nose. Full bodied on the palate, and again dark fruited, with the fruit deftly balanced with the savory and meaty aspects of the wine. Roasted meats, iodine, and some subtle herbal undertones add an excellent foil to the deep dark fruit. Whatever wood was used has integrated nicely. A structured syrah, yet with balanced fruit, savory, and meaty parts all coming together very well, with acidity keeping it fresh and balanced. If I were picking nits, it comes across a little polished for St Joseph, but overall very well done. Drinking at peak with time in hand. 92

Much darker version of Saint Joseph. Solid garnet color. Chunky fruit and spice nose - a bit of ink. Voluptuous palate supported by a good acidic spine. Nice but should be even better in 3 or 4 years. Will never be elegant. (89+?)

Dark cloudy red; bacon fat, cocoa, white pepper; spice and light pepper notes on the palate, light-bodied but firm finish with decent acidity and longevity. Good now, but can last some more time too. 13% ALC.
