  • 6th of 12, opened an hour then splash decanted, perfect level, cork quarter travelled, more to it than Thursday's lovely 98 with the generosity of a top vintage, plenty of fruit covering as yet unresolved if fine tannins, impressive hit of spice, v long and powerful for Vosne, lovely now but will improve for some years, 20+ years. At least F+ (18).

  • The vintage speaks here, it's a manly and quite rich wine still, seems actually quite young. While maybe a wee bit rustic for a Vosne-Romanée, there is a core of Pinot, that speaks loudly of the terroir. Will live on, maybe even improve.

  • 5th of 12, opened 80 minutes, perfect cork and level, deeper and fuller than previous night's 98 and more on the fruit, otherwise similar flavour profile if more backward with tannic structure more apparent, upside and probably 5 years away from full maturity. F+ (18).......marked higher on potential though 98 to be preferred for current drinking.

  • Belated Birthday Dinner (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): Super yummy. I really liked this. The nose was pure Vosne, with notes of woody, spicy sandalwood and cardamom, floating around a core of black cherries, dark plums and berries, and then a more savoury touch of earth, meat and mineral. Compelling stuff. The palate was lovely too. Effortlessly powerful, this filled the mouth with generous flavours of black cherries and dark plums, earth and meat, liberally seasoned with notes of wood spice, orange peel and an earthy minerality, all trailing away into a satisfyingly full finish. Firm but fine tannins and nicely balancing acidity rounded it off. This was not the most polished or refined wine, but boy was it a delicious charmer. An archetypal Suchots to my mind. Lovely stuff, drinking well now.

  • 4th of 12, opened 80 minutes, perfect cork and level, still some nail varnish, but nearly ready, lovely well spiced rich flavours with fine persistence and grip, perhaps not as immediately attractive as previous night's Frantin Malconsorts 02, but more to it. F+ (18).
