Chicago Burgundy Geek Dinner (Boka - Chicago IL): Still drinking well, even if at the end of its life. Almost all earthy character with faint red fruit hints and a fleeting glance of Vosne spice. Drink up.

A pristine bottle still buried in the cellar of the restaurant that bought it originally. Dark ruby color with slight bricking at the edge. Lovely mature Burgundy aromas of cherry, sous bois, leather, minerals. Lovely fruit on the palate still, with secondary coffee and earth. Continued to develop in complexity over a couple of hours, never losing its fruit. A wonderful accompaniment to lobster. A reminder of the power and the refinement of well made (and well stored!) ancient red Burgundy, even at the Villages level. As if we needed a reminder.

Rich and concentrated with good vosne spice. Could use additional cellar time to unwind, but right now this acts like a good (not great) Echezeaux.

Popped and poured at 55°F.
Appearance: Matte ruby, unfiltered. M+ viscosity. Some sediment.
Nose: Barnyard, damp cellar, dried cherry, strawberry, forest floor, coffee.
Palate: Significant brett/barnyard. Dried cherry, strawberry, organic earth, mushroom. Complex balance of remaining fruit, earth, and wood characteristics. Less acid than expected, soft and light tannins, M body, M+alcohol. Pair with duck, pork fried rice.
