  • **Tasted alongside Eyrie - Daphne 2019**

Colour: Medium plus garnet, slight opaque in the center but still see-through, with a wide translucent rim and legs. This has a very slight darker colour compared to the Daphne.

Nose: On the nose, this is more dominated by the oak and the pinot funk comes out swinging, as compared to the Daphne. Cedar, chocolate, spices, and meaty notes upfront, with the red cherries, plums, and cranberries taking a bit of the backseat, hiding in the background.

Palate: This is much more earthy and oaky in the beginning compared to the Daphne. Earthy tones, mushrooms, and hints of vanilla are very present, balanced by the acidity. The tannins are somewhat grippy, but very pleasant. The finish is decently long and is quite savory.

This is a lovely pinot noir, but I would definitely prefer the Daphne over this.

  • Great wine, nose and finish. Give it an hour decant, then wow! This should age well. Not sure if our remaining bottles will a lot get the long aging opportunity🤣

  • My favorite of the Eyrie Pinot lineup that I was able to try at their tasting room recently. The Outcrop Vineyard Pinot has an ethereal combination full flavored but very nuanced complexity. Not an "in your face" wine, but more like a metaphorical ballet dancer on your palate. One of my favorite Oregon Pinots of the past few years. Drinkable now with a brief decant, but will likely continue to improve over the next couple/few years. Upside potential. Delicious.

  • Sampled at the winery tasting room in McMinnville. Best of the wines tasted there today. Medium ruby color, little noticeable new oak influence. (I neglected to note the aging regimen) Very earthy, bloody game meat, black pepper, black cherry, red plum, mushrooms, wet stones. Very savory overall and with some aggressive swirling this got even richer and fruitier yet maintained great balance and elegance. Plenty of acidity. Very long finish. Age-worthy for sure. Wonderful, with upside in a good cellar...!

  • A ravishing beauty, and my first taste of the 2019 Eyrie lineup, but if this isn't the most finessed in the range I'll be dumbfounded because I don't know how you can crank that dial any further from here. This continues what Eyrie has been doing at this vineyard since it first came into the fold - pure elegance, the Amoureuses of Oregon. It's love at first sight from the first sip, perfectly composed, no need to slosh it around or decant, svelte pinot fruit lightly seasoned with high quality cedary oak, tannins of pure silk, a caressing presence that makes it hard to put down the glass.
