Dark garnet color turning crimson at the rim with a wide transparent edge. The nose is attractively perfumed with notes of eucalyptus, scorched cedar, pine nuts, dried herbs, and faint currant fruit. The palate shows a once powerfully- structured, dense and sappy wine with a silky texture. Flavors of black currant, stewed apricot, anise, burnt maple syrup, smoked oak, vanilla, Grand Marnier, graphite, shoe leather, damp but sweet forest floor and spice. Finishes elegantly with sweet tannin. Drink yesterday!

Flock Tasting - First Editions: Medium dark ruby. Full nose is intensely aromatic with dark currants, minerals, herbs and some underlying toast and chocolate. Palate is medium bodied with bright acidity. Good concentration of fruit across the mid-palate and into a solid finish. My #3, Group #3. This was mistakenly included in the tasting instead of the '86, which was kindly opened after the mistake was realized by our host.

Nice mature cab with lovely perfumy cab-fruit nose and spice and leather on the palate. Holding up well, can go two more years easily.
