I’m by no means experienced in Riojas but this one seems to be a bargain and a great among the entry level contestants. It is made of Garnacha, not Tempranillo.
Quite similar to an herbal and earthy Pinot, this adds blackcurrants, cream, spice and warmth. It is relatively full and concentrated, yet well rounded already and smooth in tannins.
Aside from a dour finish in blackcurrant, neither fruit nor complexity particularly stand out - this is more about structure. Parker attributes the strength and structure to this particular vintage. 92 points

Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, plum, dried herbs, anise and underbrush. Red fruit, dried herb, underbrush and anise on the palate. Good persistence. Medium bodied. A good QPR. Served with chicken empanadas.

Garnacha dominated aromas with sweet berries like raspberries, blackcurrant, liquorice and herbs, in addition to some oak. Soft, juicy and easygoing, though with good structure.

Elegant but light. Would like a bit more length/depth.
