Friends...keep holding your 2005s please. Everyone says it but of course you're tempted to try one. Well, this is yet another tale of a 2005 that just still isn't ready. Charmes Chambertin is not my favorite vineyard but I was intrigued by the 100 year + vines. The wine was good but not particularly memorable. It still felt a little closed with some unresolved tannins. I'm not a huge fan of the producer but I expected more.

(from memory) Medium garnet, intoxicating nose of black cherry, earth, spice, licorice and hints of iron, round and perfectly balance palate with rich dark fruit, dusty tannins and subtle acidity, finish is long and complex, hitting all the burgundian highlights of earth, fruit and minerality - remarkable

(Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin) A super nose; wide, deep creamy and red. A super palate to match the nose, it's concentrated and has good acidity - it's like a meal in itself - delicious. The finish is a good one with some faintly bitter oakiness. Excellent.

Slow-oxed for 15 hours upon serving into 薄はり葡萄酒器 (“Leaf” day): Purplish ruby to the eyes.
Liquorice, powdery cosmetics. Red cherries.
Clearly a lot more big bodied than the first two tasted. On palate this is purplish cherry fruits.
93-94 points.
Second round: inky, dark fruits and smoky florals, quite highly mineral, still unresolved tannins.

PNP into red wine glass ("Root" day): Medium purplish ruby to the eyes. Pouring 1/2 into the bottle, bricking rims started to appear.
Darker red and black cherry fruits. Very nice concentration of aromas, some youthful but also secondary notes of savoury fruits, florals and oak.
Quite structured indeed on palate. Some unresolved tannins. Firm finish but still enjoyable.
Still have some cellar time to go. 93 points.
