nose full of dill (firne) beeswax, honey and sundried stone fruit (apricots, peach). rich texture with the weight of the RS, but very little perceptible sweetness. despite the honey, I'm going to say no botrytis here, clean. if anything the wine is starting to dry out past where it is in perfect balance. drink up.

Attractive, ripe apricot fruit in a medium-weight body, good density, but not enough acidity left to provide the desired tension and sugar/acid balance. APN 5 02. Cellared since original release.

Light yellow. Slate, flowers and notes of petroleum on the nose. Also a bit influenced by barrel fermentation. Fruity, fragrant and stealy in the mouth. Perfect with crabs and shrimps. Impressive Kabinett. Will hold for many years.

Definitely in the zone right now. Medium straw toward gold, bright. Aromas of ripe fruit, some linen, gentle petrol and some lychee notes. The palate is generous, well lifted; the depth here is just lovely. Creamy, pillowy - I just want to swim in it. LIke a bowlful of orchard fruits, topped with a dozen different exotic spices. Juicy, delicious; I hated to see the bottle empty. In between dry and feinherb at this point; a blanket of lovely, slatey petrol woven throughout. Should hold here for another 5-6 years, but I'm glad I got to see the interplay of fruit and acid at this stage of maturity. Yum. 8,0% abv, highly recommended
served non-blind after 2 hour slow-ox

(ZILLIKEN S-R KABINETT) 2001 Zilliken Dear Friends, When something like this comes up, I ask no questions - I just say thanks. It has become apparent to most that the 2001 vintage in Germany is the defining year of the past decade. While I have admiration for all of the vintages of the past ten years (yes, including the controversial 2000 and 2003) it is 2001 that makes me yearn for the filigreed and lithe textures supported by near-perfect balance and ripening. 2005 was (in general) just too unctuous for my palate and I actually prefer 2002 and 2004 at this stage. 2001 is in a class of its own and this wine is a perfect expression of the delicate, laugh-out-loud framework that has already made this vintage a legend. When I received a note that Hanno Zilliken was ready to release a small parcel of his 2001 Saarburger-Rausch Kabinett I jumped without hesitation. The wine has been library-cellared at Zilliken since bottling and he believes it is now ready to drink. This was a wine that required 1-2 years in bottle to come out of its shell but it is now near peak and will provide a gorgeous foil to many of your favorite evening meals (if I recall, he didn’t even show the wine to most tasters when the 2001s were first showcased). What now makes this wine so special is its texture and structure - it is not a heavyweight. It is feminine and graceful in the best sense of the word with alcohol and sugar on the low end of the spectrum for Kabinett. I only wish more wines were this elegant. Yes, it is more expensive now than five years ago but the reason should be obvious (not to mention a decrease of 40% in the dollar’s value against the Euro). This example costs about the same as many 2006 Kabinetts and for that reason alone it is not to be missed. Dollar for dollar, German Riesling still represents one of the best bets for your wine budget and this is just another reason why: ONE SHIPMENT ONLY (this is the only parcel I can get) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 2001 Zilliken Riesling Kabinett Saarburger-Rausch Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Germ9983
(Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Kabinett) Closed nose with just a hint of minerality. Kinf of dull and uninspiring on the palate with lowish but adequate acidity. Okay but nothing special.

H.I.Jones 73rd Birthday at Pokai Parera - Day 1 (Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Superb Kabinett, that is certainly at full maturity. Wet slate mineralogy, bright and supple acids and rather complex. Beautiful entry and mid palate, though the finish feels as if it may be drying slightly.
