  • I had to revise this TN for two reasons. A night’s breathing did wonders. The nose was cleaner. Gone were the off reductive characters that spoiled the nose and finish. The sensual 02 Riesling, under cork, also reinforced the notion that the screw cap might have something to do with the residual reduction on the 03. 2003 was the first vintage under SC. During those early days in the transition from cork, it took a little while to adjust the sulphur levels to the new closure.

Compared to the 2002, the 03 no longer looked as developed, more pale gold with a green tinge. Attractive preserved citrus / soft marmalade aromas, joined by light toast and spice (no funky town anymore).

The palate opens well with more preserved citrus flavours soaking the front and mid palate. Deeply textured too. Good line, with the softly toasty finish echoing the nose. Gentle tingling acids finish things off nicely. Good length but not as long as the impressive 02. Most likely fully mature but the 03 will cruise for a few more years.
