  • Can't add anything to the excellent tasting note by SB5784, just to say the this wine is showing very nicely and represents a real value in Burgundy for this vintage. Wish I had some in my cellar.

  • Very dark, brick black in color. Notably dense and opaque. Some signed of age and browning around the edges. The nose leaps from the glass from their initial pour. Excellent. Notes of wild black and red berries, but rather brooding and dark. Quite secondary at this point, with sous bios, earth, smoke, and over time mint (chocolate) and spice all integrated with the fruit and prominent on the nose. A lot going on here. On the palate, quite rich, with flavors of dark berries, black cherry, cassis, and red and black berry fruit (black dominates). Still quit structured, with loads of balanced and integrated acidity, and soft and ripe but prominent tannins. Nice density on the mid palate (some reduction noted, but very positive) with great length on the finish. 2005 has a reputation to being shut down (even with extended age), but this is drinking beautifully. That said, it has the bones to last another 20+ years. This is impressive. Excellent stuff and wish I had more.

  • Nose: classic red burgundy with sweet red berries, souis bois, earth (some may call it a little barnyard, but this is not funky or bretty).
Palate: a lot of dark souis bois and earth, married with a full spectrum of fruit (black, red and green strawberry) with some bitter stems. Overall tone of this wine leans black fruited with these red fruit highlights - quite nice. Higher acidity makes for a slightly juicier wine.
Structure: medium+ body, leaning ever so to more fuzzy than polished. Some fine puckering tannins with a long cool, fruit finish with cool plums and a lot of plum skin.

Finish is slightly more heat at slightly warmer temperature and I enjoyed the wine more after ten minutes in the fridge which presented a stonier and cooler version of the palate and finish.

I think the 2015 Mazi will prove to be a better wine but this 2005 is great QPR at 120 paid.

  • Killer bottle, not yet at the peak but drinking well with air. Still quite dark and dense as one would expect from the vintage but approachable with softening structure.
