Expressive nose, very cool, mint and forest floor really popping, together with red cranberry fruit, some mildew and sweetness peaking through. Cool, crisp Pinot fruit in the mouth, mostly resolved. Rustic, faded tannins hanging on a touch, but receding. It helped that this was served fairly cold.

Dinner at Jade Palace. This was a marvellous wine. The only way the Engel was slightly better was in terms of the complexity and opulence. This was deep ruby red, touch of bricking at the rim. Lovely perfumed nose of crushed berries, dried roses, violets, cigar box, new leather and sandalwood. There was dirt, soil and this was a lovely matured wine touching the hearts of the most ardent Burgundy drinker without breaking the bank. Real firmness on the palate, with the elegance, acidity, length and good amount of matured fruit. In fact, other than a quite stunning bottle of Rousseau Chambertin 83 consumed some time back, this would probably be the best 83 I've had. I felt this went better alone, without the interference of food, and that's still probably the best way to appreciate a good aged Burg. Truly remarkable!

Luftet i karaffel 1 t. Trenger luft selv om alderen er høy. Åpner med mint og sedertre. Tobakk og krydderi. Etterhvert kirsebær og rips. Herlig kompleks nese! Perfekt moden!

Post Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner with Musicians (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Small taste, brief note. Very pleasant and doing well for the vintage, just slightly tired.
