  • Very good and healthy colour, lovely black berry fruit, this bottle was even better than the previous one but consistant with previous tasting notes - drinking very well now!

  • Funky leather barnyard and crushed beetles. Quite telling of its terroir I thought. Fruits were licourice and black clove spiced. Not for the faint hearted I would admit.

  • JM's Old World Education (Pine Close): A decently good Hermitage from a maker I have never tried before. It had a gently complex nose, with sweet blackberry and dried cherry aromas sprinkled with some garrigue and dried lavender flowers, and just a little, rather Aussie touch of crushed ant scents. The palate was classic 1998 Northern Rhone. Balanced, integrated, and blessed with a solid backbone, this seemed just about perfect to drink now, with juicy flavours of blackberries and black cherries and a bit of meatiness, finished with a toss of earth and more of the garrigue and lavender picked up on the nose. A nice wine, if just lacking a touch of depth to be special.

  • (jm's old world education@paulS') Pretty perfume of berries, cracked pepper, spice, smoke and crushed beetle (formic acid). Taste is sweet, with tight tannins, funky leather, light, with some restrained complexity.
