La Paulée de San Francisco - Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. So perfectly harmonious. Mature red fruit with subtle spice. This isn't the kind of wine that typically stands out at La Paulee because it requires some time and attention, but tonight's bottle was a real head-turner.

Light funk on the initial nose. Velvety palate with good weight and powdery tannins. Comes off as older than it is on the palate, but with good acid remaining. 93-94

Magnum. Another gorgeous Truchot. Drunk alongside the 1997. This was younger, fresher and lively. More classic in Truchot's elegant, ethereal style whereas 1997 was hotter and less detailed. But I think this one might actually needs few more years to really hit highest points.

An old-school French dinner w/ friends: Crystalline and light colour. Pretty nose with green cut branches and some earth. Light on the palate with good precise and tart raspberry fruits and a nice intensity. Clove, sweet potato and a bit of blood on the finish. Very classy. Ideal pairing with salmon en croute w/ watercress puree and winter veg gratin.

Paulee. Baking spice galore and old school feel. Best Truchot I've had.
