Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 20 notes)

Tasted by herberto on 10/4/2009 & rated 88 points: Almost. Nice tart acidity to balance significant ripeness. But like so many Cali Chards, a bitter note from overripe fruit or too much oak or both. Too bad - close to being a really nice wine. (410 views)
Tasted by cmheather on 9/12/2009 & rated 94 points: (336 views)
Tasted by joefel on 7/15/2009 & rated 92 points: Love this wine - this was my last bottle - should have bought a case! (553 views)
Tasted by tommaso on 7/7/2009 & rated 90 points: (499 views)
Tasted by Fontanafredda on 5/25/2009 & rated 92 points: Light golden color. Intense balsamic aromas, with golden delicious apples and toasty vanilla. Medium body, very well integrated. The vanilla notes are more dominant in the palate. Long finish. (648 views)
Tasted by kenthargis on 5/12/2009 & rated 94 points: Had this with scallops in a butter, champagne grape and toasted almond sauce. The butter in the sauce was slightly too much for the wine, but we really loved this one, as before. Was not oaked that much, very nice fruit, less pear and apple than something rounder and more full bodied. However, not tropical fruit flavored either. Would highly recommend and in such a different style than many other wines. (777 views)
Tasted by cdimaro on 5/2/2009 & rated 81 points: Tried a glass from a new bottle at Taverne zum Schäfli. The wine showed a straw bright yellow in the glass. Creamed vanilla notes from the new oak are dominant and suppress the fruit underneath. Overaoked. Improves a little with time and the fruit becomes just detectable making it more pleasent. Not the style I like. (793 views)
Tasted by paulst on 4/19/2009 & rated 91 points: Nice light apricot-lemon with some earthy zip. (849 views)
Tasted by MauriceE on 4/13/2009 & rated 90 points: At first it hits you with its oak-vanilla. But after being decanted and enough aeration it is quite good. Not at the level of decent Burgundy, but still at good level. (909 views)
Tasted by paulst on 3/23/2009 & rated 92 points: Crunchy creamy lemon apricot light tangerine with stone and flowers and light acidity. (949 views)
Tasted by otisabdul on 3/16/2009 & rated 93 points: Fantastic Italian white, with great floral aromatics, almost like a Condrieu. On the palate, some vanilla, pear and anise, follow by unexpected flourish of high-toned acetone or even petrol (like an Alsatian Riesling). Paired beautifully with a warm seafood salad over baby arugula. Probably in early maturity stage and would like to try again in 1-2 years. Impressive. (1034 views)
Tasted by Tarrant on 3/14/2009 & rated 92 points: Tough to have this following one of the best whites I'd ever had, Daniel Lenko Signature Chard from Niagara, this was excellent as well, different and a bit more 'steely', a great bottle of wine in it's own rightl - Gold, full bodied with notes of pear, peach, apple, butter and oak on the nose, wonderful structure/acidity, balanced, complex smooth on the finish with great length, excellent (92 Points). (978 views)
Tasted by futronic on 1/24/2009 & rated 92 points: TWC 5-Year Anniversary Dinner (Crush Wine Bar, Toronto, Canada): A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Grechetto from Umbria. Beautiful, tropical nose of vanilla, honey, peach, apricot, jasmine, and oak. Full-bodied, bone dry, with great (almost bracing) acidity. Shows notes of lemon, minerals, apple, and pencil shavings on the palate. Moderate-long finish with more minerals and white fruit. Delicious, and should be consumed over the next few years. (663 views)
Tasted by paulst on 11/25/2008 & rated 89 points: Soft smooth apricot with crusty lemon. (1073 views)
Tasted by Dave Canada on 11/22/2008 & rated 92 points: Notes from memory...Exotic notes of pineapple, tropical fruits and minerals......I think this is a bottle that will get better with some age...... (1102 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/21/2008 & rated 95 points: Italy 2008 (Italy): WIML95

Tasted at Badia a Passignano. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Georgeous floral nose with seducing aromas of passion fruit, nutmeg and Mehjool dates. Full flavors of pears, apples, pineapples and lemon zest on the medium to long finish. Bright acidity, medium to full body. Drink or hold. This is one of the best young drinking Cervaros I've ever tasted from Antinori. Well done and highly recommended.

Tasted by herberto on 10/14/2008 & rated 91 points: Very nice subtle fruit. Not a powerful wine. Maybe even a little thin. (1061 views)

The grapes originate from 15-20 year-old vineyards surrounding Castello della Sala, at altitudes between 200 and 400m a.s.l., on land of Pliocene origin and rich in marine fossils with some clayey infiltration. Once picked the grapes were placed in a refrigerated conveyor to ensure they remained at a low temperature for destemming and crushing. The varieties were fermented separately and in order to increase the range of aromas, the must remained in contact with the skins for 8-12 hours at 10°C. The must was then transferred into new 225-litre French oak barriques (Alliers & Tronçais) where alcoholic fermentation took place for 14 days. The wine remained on the lees in barriques for about 6 months, during which malolactic fermentation was completed. It was then blended an bottled. Bottle ageing lasted a further 10 months in the traditional Castello della Sala cellars before release on the market. Alcohol : 13% Vol.
