  • Pure gold in glass.
Med+ nose of luscious green melon, honey, honeysuckle, dried apricot, vanilla, caramel and massive amounts of Werther butterscotch. This wine is developing very nicely.
Palate drinks like a ripe burgundy. Med+ acidity, ripe fruit, med body, silky smooth texture. Long finish.
Many reviewed over last 3-4 years say this wine peaked but not this bottle. It was outstanding and I would guess could still age a bit further but there is no reason to wait. Enjoy!

  • I don't know how other bottles were sourced, or stored, but this one I've had for 12+ years at 55F was in it's prime.

The last bottle.. opened ~10 years back... told me to wait. So I did.

And, now.... this is fabulous. Tremendous Russian River chardonnay with balanced acids & oak.... developed aromas & flavors of candied fruits... rich & luxurious without heaviness.
Tasters returned to smell their empty glasses again & again.
We enoyed this with a lobster risotto & it was exceptional.
May have 2 more years in a great cellar, but I don't expect more improvement from here.

  • Caramel, raw cereal, and hints of citrus -- though the fruit is fading. Definitely feels rich and full. I would drink this immediately, as it's already well on the decline.

  • I enjoy drinking this in its decline, having consumed 6 bottles through their evolution. Wim’s CT notes from April are largely accurate and specific. I would only add that there is now a dry tannic oaky bitterness toward the finish. Unlike some white burgundies, most Russian River chardonnay is unlikely to evolve into year 15 with interesting secondary notes. Rather, more typically, as the fruit fades out, wood becomes more prominent, and the wine seems heavier, spicier, asparagus, a hint of sherry barrel, still great with roast chicken and osso bucco, but clearly asking to be drunk before 2021.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 94/100

    Google Translate:

Color: Medium full yellow, the color intensity of a young Sauternes. Aroma / bouquet: The characteristic bouquet of a (slightly too?) mature top Sonoma Chardonnay, full and tempting, honey, cinnamon, overripe banana and overripe pineapple. Taste / Aftertaste: Filling the mouth, filming. A (now understandably) limited acidity, completely dry but with retronasal sweet impressions of honey, caramel, vanilla. Nice balance, also because the previously too alcoholic character of this wine has since disappeared. Nice balance. Beautiful and long finish. General / potential: Impressive Sonoma-Chardonnay, now something in decline. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Taste / Finish: 17 + General / potential: 9 = 94/100
