  • Another auction purchase along with the '09 Graville Lacoste blanc. I'm batting 0 for 3 here as the Lacoste pretty much sucked and this is the second bottle of the '97 Loosen I've opened, both over the hill with a rather limp personality. The nose was quite nice but in the mouth this was thin and oxidized in a way that didn't add any interest to the wine. The word 'stale' comes to mind. Looking at the other reviews I'm thinking I just had bad luck here. Very sad.

  • Terrific. Young and tight with petrol, apple, citrus and slate. Years to go. Wonderful.

  • Pale golden colour. Minerally nose with some raisined grapey/appley fruit, suggesting a bit of oxidation. Also some rather kipper-like smokiness. I think there is a touch of oxidation here, as it certainly feels more mature than I was expecting. There's a richness here, but the lovely, gentle, subtle acidity keeps that in check Excellent length.

  • A very pale, greenish lemon colour. Initially the nose is rather reticent, but then opens up into a very good Mosel riesling nose - still fairly young and fruity, but starting to develop some petrol hints. Very crisp and clean on the attack: still very fresh with lots of apples and cream. Very dry, with almost a slight impression of pétillance from the acid. Very refreshing and very clean. Possibly a bit simpler than when I remember tasting it chez Loosen. Perhaps it's closing up for a period? Very Good Indeed.

An extremely pale, almost clear appearance with the merest hints of green tinges. Fairly fresh nose with hints of malic green-ness. Very good attack. Very fresh, with lots of fruit. There's a nice richness on the palate. This is somewhat richer than you might expect from a Kabinett. Finishes very cleanly with nice fruit and style. Very elegant. Perhaps a bit more acidity might help give it more finesse. Very Good Indeed.
