Truly showcasing just what old Egon Müller is about. A wine all about finesse, balance and purity. Nothing is out of line, everything is focused and harmonious. A truly brilliant Spätlese with a still very light colour showcasing a large aromatic spectrum ranging from baked lemon, raspberry and dragon fruit to Mandarine, Clementine, red Apple, pear juice and herbal tea. For me at peak today, even if it could undoubtedly age for another decade or two.

Fully developed, complex, with a medium(+) intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried stone fruits, dried pineapple, candied lemon, baked pear, yellow raisin, honey, petroleum, rubber and saffron.
Medium dry on the palate with a high acidity and medium body. The sweetness is completely integrated in the wine. Medium(+) intensity and impeccable balance. The finish is long and dry with a hint of bitter grapefruit to it.
Lovely, mature, high end Riesling in the perfect spot right now. Wouldn't wait a day to pop if I had a bottle myself.

Brunch at Formento's (Chicago, IL): #16-91, 8% abv. This had a slightly advanced colour (you'd think, by now, I'd get used to seeing that in older riesling), but the tinge of green in the gold was promising. The nose initially was all gasoline (or whatever that old riesling smell is), giving way to cooked pineapple and green herbs. The palate is definitely Spaetlese in sweetness, and not overwrought at all. It's simultaneously powerful and elegant -- absolutely graceful and silky. Racy green-apple acidity to drive everything home. What a Spaetlese...
