Compelling nose of deviled egg, honeysuckle, lanolin shampoo, almond paste. Spicy in the mouth, plenty of peach, white flowers, and green pear, with a little bitter pear skin on the finish. Just enough acidity to hold flavors together and avoid overt sugar, but not enough to provide a compelling backbone, vibrancy. I used a half cup of this to make a mustard demiglace sauce for pulled veal breast, over couscous and lentil. This will drink well for 10 years, keep it well chilled with service .

Great sweetness and clearly higher Oechsel-degree than normal Spätlese from Mosel. Restrained and clean nose, bursting with vigour on the palate, and as always with Egon, very long finish. The DRC of Mosel!

Riesling Riot 2018: Honeycomb, lemon, orange peel, mandarin and slate aromas. Palate is lovely, combines delicate sweetness with great acidity. Super length and poise. This still has some youth to it, but it is in a really good spot development wise. Feels like it is starting to enter a second drinking window, but with plenty more to come in time.

Riesling Riot downunder (Town Hall, Sydney): Peaches, cream, apple crumble, soft, sweet…rich with just about enough acidity to support the sweetness. Similar flavours to the nose. Hmm, perhaps it is tending to a little flabbiness…drink up?

Possibly a little closed, a little underwhelming and simple
