Lacking the level of concentration and sweetness found in 2005 or 2007, this stony, lemony wine reminds me of a light weight Chablis. The wine was produced from a blend of 72% Sauvignon Blanc and 28% Semillon.

Cos d'Estournel Masterclass with Valentine Bourrie (Caveau Wine & Bar, Shaw): Highly exotic aromas that is also very attractive with all sorts of tropical fruits, guava and white floral scents. I thought the nose is brilliant but however on the palate the acid backbone is a bit sharp and intruding. Fresh and complex with good richness, just the mouth feel is a tad less attractive. good length. 70% Sauv Blanc & 30% Semillon.

Wine dinner at L'Etranger: This is something different, not like a Bordeaux white blend and not like a Sancerre but an interesting mix. Lemon, sea urchin, mineral. Was very good with the scallop tartar with Karasumi. Should drink my last bottle within 2 years.

Cos d'Estournel Wine Dinner with Valentine Labarthe (The Pawn, Hong Kong): This is a recent new wine first produced in 2005 in only 2,000-3,000 cases. The grape varietal is 60% Sauvignon Blanc grafted onto very old red wine root stocks which penetrate the "Sancerre-style" terroir on Cos D'Estournel. Very light greenish sunlight colour. Fresh, vibrant nose of green Granny Smiths apples and distinct Sancerre-ish minerality. Similar on the palate with great acidic appley freshness and minerality developing into fresh pineapples and tinned lychees on the palate. Very enjoyable but preposterous at US$125 a bottle.
