  • Late night at home with Asparagus and J. Tasted blind. En Magnum.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of leather, dark red cherries, blackberries, dark currant. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, integrating high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of leather, dark meat, dark red cherries, blackberries, blackcurrant, dark spice, integrated oak toast, touch of bell pepper and cedar. Weak medium finish.
Time to drink up. Especially if not from magnum.

  • Good, and pretty typical of the vintage. Nice dark color, the nose is not of violets but of saddle leather and a touch of cedar. This is light- to middle-weight on the palate but shows good ripeness, and the wine has vigor. As an aperitif it's subtle. With a filet mignon finished in the oven, it's very complimentary. This has aged better than many might expect for the pedigree and the vintage. I have two more bottles and they can hold for a while, though I will probably drink them before more reputed wines of more reputed vintages.

  • Similar to last time - a little tart on the finish but opens up to show some black fruit. I thought it went ok with our roast, herbal chicken. Jen didn’t care for it and thought it was flawed on the finish. The real issue is we drink too much better Margaux and this wine suffers by comparison.

It was $20 at Warehouse Wines in NYC, which is ok qpr. Drink now or maybe age.

  • Coravin taste: a little tart and thin when first poured. It put on some weight to show red berries, black fruit and a little oak, but still lght for a Margaux. We also had the Donatiello pinot noir and was the heavier wine. I wasn't sure if this needed more time to age or just wasn't that good. Ok qpr for $20 retail and pleasant with a meal, but not great.

  • Fairly coarse tannins and some highly toasted oak sits on top of the fruit and doesn't let too much through. Not too much finesse here.
