  • Opened briefly and re-corked for several hours in the cellar. Remarkably delicate - strawberries, rose hips, mild spice and perfectly balanced acid. It improved over the course of a 4-hour window, and the last glass might have been the most beautiful and integrated. This bottle may have had a little travel abuse over the years, and already showed a touch of bricking, but was still fantastic. A top 3 wine experience for Margaret - her words. Only thing lacking was more staying power, but again, perhaps that speaks to the handling over the years. Still, for something that I paid $400 for (and is now supposedly selling for $3k) this was an amazing experience.

  • Bâtard-Montrachet and Cathiard Malconsorts Dinner with Acker (Brindille - Chicago IL): Brilliant start to a Cathiard flight, of otherwise all Malconsorts. Wonderfully bright red cherry and berry start-to-finish with Asian five spice. Simultaneously muscular and lighter styled, like the best 2007s. Silky textures add a further enticing level of charm. Kept getting better through the evening. MY WOTN.

  • Initially a bit shy and muted but it eventually opens up after two hour. Candied fruit, spice, dark fruit and herbs. Good transperency and grip on the palate. The sweetness is penetrating with a long finish. Like most Cathiard RSV during this era, it is more Richebourg than RSV. 93-94

  • Despite five hour of aeration, the wine was quite closed. Nose was initially muted but palate showed texture and depth with an array of red and candied fruit. Towards the end of the dinner, the sweetness emerged with weightless power. Probably needs at least 5 more years for the wine to be ready. 94+ potential.

  • Wow, what a silky and alluring wine. Red fruit with savory spice and completely elegant textures. Not the powerhouse like the DRC in the next glass, but this is so weightless and enthralling. Stayed exactly the same for the 2+ hours in glass. Even better than when last tasted shortly after release.
