Had my eye on this one in the cellar. Was grilling some mixed sausages and wanted something with both fruit and acidity. This worked. Walked that tight rope and was engaging. Bit of magenta on the rim, some boisenberry, nicely balanced. In a good spot now, relaxed and inviting. Served to a friend who predominantly drinks French and this night I had the lower alcohol wine vs. his '04 CdP!
Aromas of bacon fat, violets, blackberry, raspberry and pepper. Nose is really expressive and open for business. This is think, rich and bursting with flavors of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, mineral and a touch of earth. Tried to drink this at the right time because I only have a bottle. Carlisle is more known for their Zins but their Syrahs are very underrated, coming from a guy who isn't the biggest syrah fan either.
First time trying a Carlisle Syrah and was extremely impressed. Very typical Syrah characteristics of pepper and spice. Black fruit with an amazing mouthfeel and a very long finish. Would stand up to the classic Rhone Rangers of the Central Coast easily.
