  • This had a rather perfumed and floral nose, needed some coaxing to open. Very light, spicy, mineral and traces of new oak. Candied strawberry notes are very out there. Medium to full body and persistent tannins. This definitely can age but enjoyable now. I’m still quite perplexed by the colour here.. does look really pale and light for a Vogue, and a BM at that too.

  • Same bottle as Melvin and Jason. This was a beautiful young Burgundy with bright red fruit, initially clearly a fair bit of whole cluster, fragrant and aromatic and with good length. I wrote down 2017 Burgundy, top end village or 1er Cru. I wondered whether this was Vosne, but then in a cool vintage such a young wine could have been made in other places. As per our generous friend this had been sourced from a very reputable local retailer. Gave it 93 points blind.
Unfortunately I had the 2007 Vogue Bonnes Mares merely two years ago in another blind tasting dinner. Rated it 96 and clear WOTN with some stiff GC competition. But more importantly it was a completely different wine, clearly in the dark fruit spectrum, earthy notes on a medium body with good concentration, superb balance of freshness and weight. It was then already in its peak drinking window, which did not surprise anybody given it was a 2007.

  • End of year celebration: Don't think I've had a bottle that generated so much controversy. Light, elegant red cherry fruit that didn't feel more than 5 years old - thought this was a 2017 Vosne. Perplexing because this was neither Vogüé nor Bonnes Mares in nature as it lacked any sort of robustness; we were debating if it was a fake or a recently released bottle. Pleasant but not mindblowing.

  • Great expression of chambolle's characteristics in this vineyard. medium to light bodied and elegant, with softened tannin and a nose of spice and leather and red fruit. On the palate medium plus acidity and a lingering finish. The perfect foil for Holiday Spiced goose and vegetables. Delicious. Day 2 drinking just as well...but less fruit and more baking spice like nutmeg and cinnamon. Have one more, but I don't think there's much need to wait.

(Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes-Mares) After the Amoureuses the nose is broader, less refined but full of energy - like the premier cru there is a hint of background spice. Mouth-filling with soft tannin and juicy fruit - actually for the first time I have an impression in my mind of 'risotto rice' for the tannins - soft but still with a little bite of crunchy texture at their core. François says this can be a characteristic of the 'terres rouges' where the domaine's vines are planted. Long finishing, this wine is not as forceful as some vintages, but I like it all the more for that. Excellent.
