Nose: candy, strawberry, red fruits Notes: Vogue Bonnes Mares has always been a hit or miss for me (often a miss unfortunately) and 2003 being such a hot year I was not putting too much expectation in this combination but in this particular situation I really enjoyed it. Opened for 1.5 hour and we started serving the wine, there's this amazing and delicate sweetness in the palate and it was both intense and beautiful. This wine is drinking perfectly now. Somehow the ripeness of 03 worked perfectly for this Bonnes Mares. This was one of the best Bonnes Mares I've tasted from the Domaine in recent years. Still quite dense in color and although drinking nicely now I suspect there's plenty of life ahead of it. Good to drink now but I think it can also be cellared further. Drink: now-2040 Rating: 93

At a private dinner, Little Cove, Noosa. This wine was an interesting presentation that was a reminder that excellent, yet distinctive, wines could be made in 2003 with a deep plum jam colour and a nose of garnet plums, dark cherries, blackberries and savoury notes of forest floor and spices. The palate is rich and mouth filling with no sense of heaviness but rather a lovely persistence and a touch of mineral grunt on the finish. Simply delicious and distinctive wine.

BBC Long weekend 2021; 6/11/2021-6/13/2021: Deep rich colour. Dark fruits, dark spice, blood, plum, damson. Plums and blood, a little earth but not heavily, rich dark flavours, plenty of fine tannins but less than might be expected for BM, the unusual flavour profile probably linked to warm vintage. More plums than cherry, but made in a refined structured style. It’s absolutely delicious in an atypical way for BM. Seems like it will continue to build spice and richness.

Jim openned this for his BD dinner. It got a blossom nose and smooth palate. A pleasing wine of the night.
